So Let's look at how we appraise events.

Before we do that we need to identify what is meant by an "event". Well, there is no real limit. An event can be:

  • An actual situation
  • An imagined situation
  • A remembered situation
  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Beliefs

So, an event occurs and there is a resultant consequence. The consequences can either be emotional or physical (behavioral).

So let's look at this process in terms of a dental event.

Event: Toothache

Person One:

Toothache - visit

Person Two:

 

Toothache - no visit

 

You can see from the above that two people reacted completely differently to the same event. Why might that be?
