Free yourself from Dental anxiety, dental fear or denta phobia Make it happen

Beyond Fear mission statement:

  • Encourage, inspire and empower you to seek the professional help that you need.
  • Provide support as you go through treatment especially when the doubts set in.

Beyond Fear is not a dentistry resource and does not contain pages of information about dentistry, which you may think is quite strange. Well, not really and the reason for that is that dental phobia is not about dentistry, it is not even about dentists, it is, in fact, about the way you think and feel about dentistry and dentists.

Beyond Fear is, and always has been about for the people who believe that it is "impossible" form them to to get to the dentist. Which is why it is not laden with dental information.

Beating dental phobia, especially when it is extreme, doesn't start with finding the best dentist or the best treatment. It starts with a personal battle with your own thinking processes and it has to be won before dentists or treatments can even be considered.

The biggest enemy is the reactive response. You know the one that makes you feel the dread, the fear, that awful sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when you even think about dentists.

There is various information contained within these pages but the information that is often more effective is that which has been given by people in a similar position because it give you hope and inspiration.

I hope that you find that inspiration within this site.

You are not alone, help information and advice is here for you. Take it, apply it and free yourself from "the fear"

For many years I struggled with my fear of Dentists the effects on my life were getting worse.

Very rarely did I smile - it showed my teeth.

If I talked face to face with someone my hand was often held front of my mouth.

However this soon caused problems on that side of my mouth, so to relieve that I ate on the other side. That too caused problems but I persevered. It's better than going to the dentist .... or so my fears convinced me.

Through the eyes of a phobic

My teeth got progressively worse. There were more cavities. Teeth started crumbling away and breaking off at gum level. Abscesses were regular occurrences and often lasted for several days swelling the side of my face.
The constant pain was almost unbearable but still my fears prevented me from seeking help. I would take painkillers like they were sweets but still I could not go to the dentists because of my unconscious fears. I tried various ways to pull the offending teeth out to try to stop the pain - failing miserably and making the situation worse.

“Using the resources on this site, I discovered that what I really needed was a dentist who could convincingly promise me painless treatment, who wouldn't make any negative remarks about the state of my teeth, and who would offer me to take things AT MY PACE and never do anything that I might be frightened of. I would have to know that the dentist would stop at the slightest hint of discomfort if I so wished and let me be in charge at all times. I would need to be able to trust my dentist 100%.”
